At The Baldwin Center:
As the founder and clinical director of The Center, John casts vision for constantly improving ways to help people who truly desire healing and growth. This core value begins by first creating an environment for the team that nurtures learning, support, safety and accountability. It continues by refining a developmental, interpersonal and experiential model for much of The Center's therapy. John is always striving to do better what he loves as his life's work, and he encourages this desire in each team member.
Clinically, John specializes in helping people who experience depression, anxiety, fear and shame. He also helps those who have suffered trauma due to the loss of a parent, childhood neglect, and emotional/physical/sexual abuse. John also specializes in working with men in healing the wounds of childhood, fatherhood and manhood. His work is primarily in individual and group therapy. He leads both men's and co-ed group therapy weekends, and trains and supervises other mental health professionals, especially in using the relationship between therapist and client as a primary factor in healing. John has also had longstanding interest and expertise in consulting with pastors regarding the counseling needs of the church. In 1994, John rediscovered his love of percussion, especially drumming, and co-created the unique and popular drumming workshop, Rhythm Beyond Words. More recently, John has been integrating the importance of healthy nutrition, exercise and stress management into his already holistic approach at The Center.
