The Baldwin Center grew out of a vision which began in the early 1970's to create a highly professional, skillful counseling center that also deeply supported the growth and development of those who worked there. A core belief was that the health and integrity of the team formed the crucible in which all other "work" would occur. Additionally, this was to be a Christian counseling center where faith and psychology, historically at passionate odds with one another, could find a home and reach higher ground to serve those who desired help, regardless of their faith. To accomplish this, it would be necessary to move far beyond the traditional concept of a "group practice", and develop instead a "team" of individuals who were committed to their own growth, first and foremost, and would learn how to "use themselves" in the process of helping to heal others. This involved creating an environment that was safe, nurturing, and where mutual accountability and the exposure of one's self and work was the norm. The model also expected therapists to "do their own work" in personal therapy. Leading by example, learning to be appropriately real with clients became the hallmark for healing. Every other aspect of professional training would be expressed within this most profound crucible, the human relationship. When The Center was openned in April 1984, this dream of Dr. John Baldwin's became a reality.
The Baldwin Center for Psychological Services, Ltd. is a private counseling center dedicated to providing competent, professional service and support in the context of authentic, caring relationships that are both psychologically informed and distinctly Christian. We are a team of men and women who are licensed and certified therapists, trained in clinical psychology and counseling. As we enter our 21st year of service our present team represents over 95 years of clinical experience. We would like to acknowledge the significant and unique contribution made by each former team member who has been on staff at The Baldwin Center.
