Philosophy of Treatment
We recognize the emotional, physical, social and spiritual needs that we believe God has created in every person. Life is complex and often difficult . . . for everyone. Many different problems can arise. When these concerns reach a point where they interfere with our lives, seeking help is both a wise and courageous decision.

The experienced professionals on our team provide a safe, respectful and objective relationship for healing and change. Perhaps as important as our extensive training is our awareness that we, too, are wounded and broken. We are no different than you, and have committed a great deal to our own healing as well. We are very familiar with "both sides of the couch." What you will get more than anything else at The Baldwin Center is a real relationship, not one where we hide behind our role.

As stated, our approach is psychologically informed and uniquely Christian. What does this mean? That psychologically we are all trained to understand basic human development, family dynamics and dysfunctions, the foundations of diagnosis and assessment of most concerns that people present, and have developed our own style of how to best treat these problems in living. One simple way to understand a great deal of what troubles most people is to ask three questions: 1) What happened to me? 2) How have I survived or coped with my pain or problem? 3) What do I need to experience or do to really fix it?

From a spiritual viewpoint, we bring the added sensitivity and belief system based on the basic principles found in the Bible. Many people seek us out because their faith is important to them, and they want this to be part of their healing. Others because their religious experiences have harmed them, and want someone who will be very sensitive to this. Still others are seeking to understand their own beliefs, to clarify what they have been raised to believe, or just to explore what they believe for the first time. We want to make it very clear that while we embrace Christianity we do not want assumptions about this to prevent anyone from exploring us as a resource. We do not require any client to share our beliefs. We do not try to force anyone to embrace our beliefs. Each man and woman is responsible for their own relationship with God. Because of this stance, some will criticize us for not "saving" everyone. Others will critize us feeling that religion has no place in therapy. We gave up long ago trying to please either.

Our commitment is to help you better understand yourself and your life experience, and to help you take responsibility for solving problems in everyday living, some very profound. If you want your relationship with God to be part of this, we bring that added knowledge. In is our heartfelt desire to help you live with fewer problems and enjoy more choices, freedom and peace than were ever available to you.

At The Baldwin Center we are intent on helping our clients lead more fulfilling and productive lives. When individuals, couples, families or organizations are experiencing difficulties or seeking solutions, as our Logo implies The Baldwin Center offers "A Bridge to Wholeness."
